The Texas Municipal League Intergovernmental Risk Pool, located in Austin, is a public entity risk pool providing workers’ compensation, liability, and property coverages to more than 2,800 Texas local government entities.

We are seeking a Loss Prevention Representative to assist with providing risk management services to our members in a partnership setting. Services can range from informative onsite safety/loss prevention visits to dynamic presentations.

Reporting to a Senior Loss Prevention Representative, the Loss Prevention Representative provides services and resources to help reduce the frequency and severity of actual and potential losses.

This position:

  • Provides loss prevention services to members in an assigned geographic area
  • Prepares for site visits to understand potential exposures and hazards; reviews and prepares correspondence related to visits; and prioritizes visits
  • Coordinates and schedules training programs to help meet the loss prevention needs of members
  • Researches member exposures, hazards, and related solutions
  • Provides member training in specific areas as requested
  • Gathers information for property valuations as needed
  • Contributes articles for newsletters
  • Attends continuing education and training.

Knowledge and skills required:

  • Knowledge of potential risks in local government operations
  • Knowledge of risk management and insurance principles
  • Skill in decision making and problem solving
  • Knowledge of safety principles, practices, rules, and regulations
  • Skill in the preparation of written correspondence and reports
  • Skill in conducting on-site risk exposure assessments
  • Excellent ability to speak and write effectively to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, public officials, agencies/organizations, and Pool members
  • Excellent computer and technology skills, including office and media applications

Extensive in-state travel on behalf of the Pool (about 50% depending on assigned territory) is required.

Education, Experience, and Certifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in risk management, occupational safety and health, or a closely related field is preferred
  • Experience sufficient to understand the principles relevant to the major duties, associated with two to three years’ experience in a similar position is required
  • Valid Texas motor vehicle operator’s license
  • Possession of relevant designations such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate in Risk Management (ARM), or Certified Risk Manager (CRM) are beneficial

Starting monthly salary is dependent upon qualifications with a minimum starting salary of $82,219.

The Pool is currently accepting applications from in-house staff to assume the duties of a Senior Claims Assistant in the Liability and Property Claims Department. This position performs administrative and customer service duties related to the processing of member claims.

Principal Duties Include:

  • Answers telephone calls and routes the calls to appropriate adjusters.
  • Reviews faxes and emails to obtain additional information as needed to complete claim entry.
  • Attaches emails and faxes to appropriate existing claims.
  • Reviews and processes claims submitted by Members under the appropriate coverage.
  • Create claims that are submitted via claims email address, web portal, and faxes.
  • Takes new claims over the phone from the Pool members.
  • Process new and existing EEOC’s and lawsuits from the claims email address and web portal.
  • Gather preliminary claims information to determine if it is a new claim or an existing claim.
  • Call the District Court, the State Court, and the Small Claims Court to get additional information on lawsuits.

Education and Experience:

The successful candidate for this position will have Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.

Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.

Texas Department of Insurance Adjuster License preferred.

Functional Overview:

The candidate will work in agile team that is highly integrated by business users, development team, business analysts, project management and the Quality Management Team. The candidate will work with other stakeholders to plan and develop manual and automated test suites for a specific set of products. The ideal candidate is excited about providing new tools and improvements to the QA team to make the overall testing process is always more efficient

Responsibilities of the position include:

  • Work closely with BA’s, App managers, business users to lead testing efforts using agile methodology.
  • Contribute to and promote teamwork in a multi-vendor environment developing complex multilayered enterprise applications.
  • Performs manual, data-driven, integration and performance testing as needed.
  • Performs integration testing; validates and tests all integration points between internal applications and external services.
  • Designs and implements manual and automated tests cases and conditions.
  • Documents defects and issues.
  • Uses existing tools and techniques to execute test cases and build/script new test for cases.
  • Works with automation testing by providing strategies and tests cases; generates automated testing cycles.
  • Supports production deployment of all applications and performs validation testing.
  • Assists departments to analyze, identify and document requirements.

Education, Experience and Certifications:

  • BS in Computer Science or related area, or relevant work experience.
  • Excellent knowledge of all phases of SDLC and experienced in Waterfall, Agile and iterative methodologies.
  • Understanding of QA tools, methodologies, and best practices including manual and automation testing.
  • Knowledge of Object-Oriented Programming, Java/Angular JS Preferred
  • Strong communication skills in both verbal & written communication
  • Knowledge of SQL scripts to validate data between source and target systems.
  • Knowledge of user stories/ functional Requirements and various business requirements documents.
